Entrench Design

An exercise in semantic markup, efficient coding, and unique design.

Formerly of SiegeTech, an experiment in consulting, I'm currently employed as a web developer at a commercial real estate listing and marketing company. My jobs include website design and construction, graphic and logo design, document-to-web conversions, some customer service, and keeping up with trends. Semantic markup and design is of utmost priority as the web develops. Without becoming preachy, there are a host of horribly designed and built sites that not only look horrid, but have horrible interfaces and terrible back-ends. My goal is to maintain a level of interactivity while creating meaningful designs and always learning along the way.

Probably like most other web developers, I'm self-taught with help from those more knowledgeable than myself should the need arise. My skill set includes expert XHTML/CSS, intermediate/advanced PHP and Javascript, advanced static graphics design utilizing the Adobe Suite, advanced knowledge in browser compatibility, and a growing knowledge of server setup and maintenance.

Why didn't I make this site IE6-friendly or, even, viewable to IE6? Mostly because people using IE6 need to upgrade. I will design sites to work in IE6, but I don't want to further justify a browser that is need of market removal.

Please don't encourage the use of IE6.

In construction.

Due to some interesting circumstances with their previous CMS and DB provider, LACDB has contracted PL to come up with a new design and structure similar to PL's property listing and marketing system. For time's sake, I was instructed to follow PL's (www.propertyline.com) website general layout, but modify it enough so as not to be completely the same
